I took office as the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union in January, 2019.
Turkey’s policy of opening up to Africa is progressing on a steadfast and mutually beneficial course.
In Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia we are committed to working rigorously with Ethiopia and with the African Union to promote our ties with Africa, which constitutes an essential aspect of our enterprising and humanitarian foreign policy.
I feel very proud to represent my country in brotherly Ethiopia with which our country has long-standing historical relations. The fact that Turkey opened a Consulate in Harar during the Ottoman era and that the first Turkish Embassy in the sub-Saharan Africa was opened in Addis Ababa in 1926 are indicators of these long-standing historical relations.
Turkish-Ethiopian relations are comprehensive and multilayered. Hosting many different cultures, both countries have developed rich cultures of tolerance. The foundation of our brotherly relations is particularly sound. In this time of turbulence on a global scale, our brotherly relations gain even more significance.
In this regard, we take it upon ourselves to give further boost to the existing cooperation between Turkey and Ethiopia through the mechanisms of the United Nations and other international institutions.
Economic and trade relations between the two countries are of utmost importance. The total investment by Turkish companies operating in Ethiopia amounts to 2.5 billion USD. These Turkish companies contribute generously to the employment of Ethiopians, too. Having said that, we also believe that it is possible to further strengthen the economic ties. With the support of our Office of Commercial Counsellor, we will continue to exert maximum effort so that bilateral trade can fulfil its full potential.
Furthermore, providing fast and effective consular service is among the top priorities of our Embassy. Thanks to electronic consular services and our call center, we aim at providing round the clock service. In addition, the doors of our Embassy are by all means always open to our citizens. To this end, you can follow the official website and Twitter account of our Embassy for the latest developments and news/announcements.
With the affiliated bodies of our Embassy acting in complete cooperation, we will continue in our efforts to enrich and promote political, military, trade and cultural relations with Ethiopia and with the African Union.
I firmly believe we will work as a team with our citizens living in Ethiopia to honour Turkey’s presence in Ethiopia in the best way possible.
On behalf of my colleagues and of myself, I extend my greetings and warmest regards.
